The Inaugural NextGen Annual Conference

We asked our members what they want from a pensions conference and our very first annual conference is built to deliver just that. Drawing a new line in the sand for pension conferences. Doing what we do best – bringing together fresh ideas, new voices and practical application.

Structure
There will be 6 mini slots available to rising stars from across the industry. Each slot will have up to 7 minutes to present and share their thoughts on their chosen news topic.

Each slot will be facilitated by the chair of our Nextgen Mentoring committee, who will ensure the slots run to time and hand over swiftly to the next speaker. The slots will take place throughout the day ahead of each large session. We feel that this will add an interesting edge to the order of the day and gives each individual the chance to shine!

There’s two topics that you can choose to talk about:

Option one: Mini speaker slots – pensions news through your lens
We want to designate this part of the day to you! Our members, followers, supporters, and rising stars! This session will be different, we’re handing the mics over to you, and asking you to talk about something that’s been in the pension news in the past 6 months. You can choose anything you like, a topic that interests you, something that directly impacts your business, or perhaps something you simply want to delve into a little deeper.

Our only requirement is that you choose a news item that’s within the last 6 months, so its relevant and topical within the industry.

Option Two: Mini speaking slots – Innovation before a crisis
This can be something that you have already worked on, that you feel has been impactful.

It might be a project you have up your sleeve that you want to initiate, or it might even be a conversation you’ve had with colleagues that you think is worth sharing. Either way, we want to hear it.

What we want to hear is how innovation before a crisis can improve outcomes. Either with real experience or a theoretical approach.

The topic you choose is down to you – we will not influence this in any way. It’s important for us to encourage diversity of thought – this is a perfect session to do just that!  Let your creative side run wild and show us what’s important to you.

You’ll have 12 slides, and each slide will be on screen for 30 seconds.

We would like the content to cover three elements, all of which we will be on hand to help you shape:

  • Choose – What have you chosen and why?
  • Change – Would you change anything from that topic if you could?
  • Explain – How would you explain this subject to someone outside of the industry?

You won’t need to worry about technical equipment – we’ll make sure you have everything you need.

Support
Don’t worry if you’re interested, but haven’t got a clue where to start, we’ll be on hand with lots of support before (and during) the conference. We’ll host a number of prep calls before the big day and provide 1-2-1 support to help you bring your ideas to life and get the most out of your 7 minute slot. Closer to the conference there’ll be an in-person prep session, where you can rehearse and meet the other mini-slot speakers.

You’ll have access to the NextGen training and event teams throughout the process and you can reach out to us at any time to run your ideas past us.

This is a great opportunity to nab a speaking slot at an industry event, and truly experience the main stage which is often reserved for industry veterans!

Who will get to speak?
We’re hoping that lots of you that don’t normally get a spot on a conference agenda put your name down. And we’ll have the difficult decision of selecting people for this conference – we’ll be looking for people from across all areas of the industry, with any level of experience. The only pre-requisite is that you haven’t spoken at a pensions conference before.
